How We Started!

Our Story - From Basement Shop to Industry Leader

Carpenter Die Casting’s roots trace back to the earliest days of die casting in North America; built on craftsmanship, innovation, and five generations of family involvement.

Toolmaking Roots

William P. Carpenter works as a skilled tool and die maker at A.H. Tallman Brass & Metal Co. in Hamilton.

Recognizing the potential of the emerging die casting process, he is sent to Toledo, Ohio to train directly underneath Herman H. Doehler, a German immigrant who patented his own pressure casting method in 1906 and founded Doehler Die Casting.

1900s

Bringing Die Casting to Canada

Returning from Toledo, William establishes and manages a die casting department at A.H. Tallman Brass & Metal Co. in Hamilton. The company is the first known supplier of die cast parts to the Canadian market, including automotive manufacturers, helping introduce the technology to Canadian industry.

Our founder, William Percival Carpenter
Family Owned & Operated Since 1946
Carpenter Die Casting has a history bound with strong family ties. Founded in 1946 by William P. Carpenter, a pioneer of Canadian die casting, our story began humbly in the basement of his Hamilton home with a single machine. William was a tool and die maker who designed, built, and patented a washing machine pump and sold it to Canada’s early appliance industry. Since then, Carpenter Die Casting has grown into a trusted name in manufacturing, known for fast lead times, dependable service, and exceptional quality. Today we continue to offer solutions for manufacturers and small businesses that require smaller volumes of die cast parts.
A Passing of the Torch

Currently owned and operated by 4th generation family member Bill Carpenter, Carpenter Die Casting continues the family tradition of providing die cast parts for a wide range of industries. Bill, much like his grandfather who started the business, emphasizes quality, new and better developed solutions, and bringing parts to clients at the lowest costs.

With the fifth generation involved in the business, Carpenter is focused on improving efficiencies, optimizing processes, strengthening customer partnerships, and continuing to modernize how we quote, manufacture, and deliver parts. Our goal is to build on five generations of history while preparing the company for the next generation of customers, employees, and manufacturing opportunities.

Environmental Sustainability

Sustainability & Responsibility

Long before sustainability became a common focus in manufacturing, Carpenter Die Casting invested in a practical recirculation cooling system that is still in use today. Rainwater is collected from the roof and stored in a 100,000-gallon underground tank beneath the fountain in front of our facility. From there, the water is pumped through the plant and used to cool our die casting machines, dies, and equipment during production.
This system has helped reduce water waste, support efficient operations, and lower the environmental impact of our manufacturing process for over 50 years. This helps lower operating costs, improve efficiency, and reduce unnecessary water consumption / reliance on city water, supporting a more sustainable and cost-effective manufacturing process. Along with responsible production practices, Carpenter remains committed to giving back wherever possible and through local partnerships, sponsorships, and support for the community that has supported us for generations.

We’re also active in our community through fundraisers and sponsorships, giving back to the people and region that have supported us for decades.
